Celebrating an Iconic Milwaukee 50th Wedding Anniversary

Wedding anniversaries are one of the most special celebrations that you can share with your loved ones. Sometimes it’s difficult to decide what to do! Do you have a nice quiet night in, or go out on the town with friends and family? For Jill and Peter, they wanted to do something special with their family to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary!

Personalizing a Tour to You

At the beginning of the planning process, we sat down with Jill and asked her questions such as, “where did you go on your first date with Peter?” Armed with the story of their romance, Milwaukee Food & City Tours was able to propose a custom tour to not only show off Milwaukee, but also to show their family some very special places.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration

Entitled, Celebrating a Classic Love in Classic Milwaukee, we picked up the group at the North Point Congregational Church, where the two married 50 years ago! We drove past their high school and past their favorite hangout – the old Milky Way. The Milky Way was the inspiration to Happy Days producers for Arnold’s Drive-In and is now where Kopp’s Frozen Custard resides. During the tour, we stopped at the Wisconsin Cheese Mart, where we sampled cheese, sausage, beer for the grown-ups and root beer for the grand-kids. Next was a visit to Milwaukee’s Golden Boy, the iconic Bronze Fonz statue for a photo!

We walked along the Riverwalk to the Intercontinental Hotel and went for the classic Marc’s Big Boy Burger at Kilowat. Once upon a time, Peter was the Commissary Manager for the Marc’s Big Boy Restaurants, Captain’s Steak Joints and the Red Garter downtown. Needless to say, Jill and Peter had many date nights with that classic burger. Jill’s sister and daughter both worked at Big Boy’s too – a family tradition!

After a delicious lunch, the tour stopped at Indulgence Chocolatiers – because nothing is sweeter than love. The afternoon ended at North Point Custard, where everyone could enjoy the lakefront and a frozen treat!

In route, our tour guide even hosted a personalized trivia game for their children and grandchildren to play during the bus ride! As the tour concluded and we retraced Peter and Jill’s steps of courtship, we sent our guests off with a special Milwaukee party favor, a personalized golden wedding cake cookie created by La Tarte Bakery.

Our team was so excited to help make Jill and Peter’s 50th wedding anniversary tour a special one, and after the tour, the thank you e-mail from Jill and Peter affirmed that this was a home run. She wrote,

THANK YOU for planning this tour.  It was wonderful.  Everything was perfect and we especially enjoyed meeting with the new minister at the Congregational Church in Fox Point. We had so much fun with the grandkids as well.  They enjoyed every part of the tour.  Lots of time for them to run around and experience the sand at Bradford Beach and the custard they’d never had before, and the delicious chocolate their mom loved!!!  What a fantastic time. It was the highlight of the entire weekend!!

At Milwaukee Food & City Tours, we want to plan a special day for you! Whether it be an anniversary, Bachelorette party, birthday, we love customizing our itinerary to help make your day EXTRA special.
