At Milwaukee Food & City Tours, our passion is firmly rooted in food and Milwaukee. For the past 15 years, we’ve been offering delicious walking and bus tours exploring neighborhoods originally settled by Italian, Irish, Polish and German immigrants. During the pandemic, our pivot led us to offering gift boxes for the holidays which far exceeded our 2020 and 2021 goals. In 2022, we are planning to build and ship approximately 12,000 gift boxes.
Job Overview
We will be packaging Christmas advent boxes and preparing them for shipment around the nation. Each box (which can be viewed here) includes products from 12 or 24 small businesses and food producers. We are in search of happy helpers who are excited to play an important, but repetitive, role in the magic of Christmas. On a scale of 1 to 10 – with 1 being Ebenezer and 10 being Buddy – where do you fall? If you answered 7.5 or greater, we want to talk with you! We’ll be playing Christmas music, eating candy canes and packaging boxes. Bah Humbug is not in our dictionary.
Job Duties
– Assemble physical boxes to be used in advent calendars
– Stand on your feet the entire time, circulate around tables to pick (small) products up and pack them in boxes
– Use a tape gun to secure boxes and adhere packaging slips
– Place boxes into loading areas, which might sometimes include a loading dock or truck
– Breakdown packaging and take to the dumpster
– Help with counting and moving inventory
– Helpers with computer skills will also be used to verify data accuracy and help with data entry
Key Details
– Our “fulfillment center” is at the Radisson Hotel West, across from Mayfair Mall, where we will be working from the grand ballroom. The address is 2303 N. Mayfair Road.
– Anyone ages 16 and up are welcome to join our team. We are not able to provide work permits for under age 16.
– We welcome people of all abilities to join us, but please note that you will be on your feet most if not all of the time.
– We begin working on Monday, October 31st, with the vast majority of the project being completed by November 22nd.
– You will have the opportunity to pick your own hours, up to 40 hours a week, until the project is complete. Once the need for Advent Calendar production has slowed, we will cut shifts and there will only be an opportunity for limited weekday hours at that point.
– Even though we have specific shifts to pick from on the scheduling tool, we are flexible if you can’t arrive right on time or have to leave early. You will only be paid for the time which you actually work in a shift. If you are unable to come for a shift, we do expect to be notified so that we can plan accordingly.
Compensation
We pay $15 an hour. You will clock in / out via our Gusto timeclock app. Payroll is generated every two weeks via direct deposit.
